Why subscribe to . . .

I do not charge for this newsletter/blog. And I won’t ever spam you (nor will substack). I won’t promise to post every week; and sometimes I may post 2 or 3 times in a week. In short, it’s variable but I hope not too much.

About me:

I graduated from Wheaton College in 1969 with a B.A. in Biblical Archaeology, minor in Philosophy; completed both the M.Div. and Th.M. at Grace Theological Seminary in 1972 and 1973 (respectively), with a focus on Hebrew Bible/Old Testament. I attended the University of Michigan (Ancient Near Eastern Studies) from 1974 through 1978, receiving an M.A. in 1975 and exiting after finishing comprehensive exams (“all but dissertation”) in 1978.

My spouse Merna and I founded Eisenbrauns, a bookseller, in 1975; but we soon began to do prepress work and then, in 1978, entered the academic publishing world. In 2017, the publishing division was acquired by Penn State University Press, and I’m now very happily retired. We’re both avid (amateur) bird-watchers, a habit that started while we were dating in college during the last century.

Why I’m writing:

Mostly for myself; I find that writing helps me to make my thoughts more concrete, less vague (even if my writing may sometimes be vague!).
